Dinner in Oaxaca!

Hola!

We are packing up this morning and heading out about 9 for the Oaxaca airport.  It really doesn’t even get light here until a bit after 7 am, so now – 5:06 am – it’s REALLY dark outside. [Happy Equinox!]

Dinner last night at Las Quince Letras was absolutely wonderful!  I know that R has requested that once we get home we do NOT have ANY Mexican food for at least a month, but boy, I will certainly miss it!  (Although honestly, the pasta the other night was great, and I’ve been feeling like a good pizza, but the worse thing is that we walked past what R identified as a hot dog cart the other night – and I’ve been craving one ever since!)

Got to the restaurant, which is literally right around the corner and takes less than 5 minutes to get to, just before 7, and were seated upstairs again, next to our original table.  Really another lovely and mild evening, and eating upstairs (while we are still being entertained by a saxophone) was magical!

This time, for starters, I opted for their Oaxacan taquitos.  It was on the starters list, but there were actually FOUR of them – corn tortillas stuffed with oregano-style chicken and topped with coloradito mole sauce.  They were FABULOUS; that could have been my entire meal!  As it was, when R finished his starter, he did help me out a bit, even though he isn’t the biggest mole fan.  Robert ordered what translates as “Thick fried corn garnachas tortillas from the Isthmus region”.  No idea what it was other than beef was involved, and he enjoyed it very much.

More wonderful mole for me!

For mains, I ordered what R had ordered the first time we were here:  Oaxaca style tasajo (beef) enchilada.  This consisted of a very thinly pounded steak with cheese on it, served with chorizo, guacamole and vegetables.  It was excellent, although way too much food to finish it!  R got grilled chicken served with rice. Why, once again, does plain chicken taste so good in other countries?  Could it be that vitamins and hormones DO make a taste difference – and not for the better?  R finished his meal with a small glass of Mezcal, and even though the waiter explained to him why he should try that particular one, we really have no idea what he said.  Oh well!  R enjoyed it, and it was served with the Mexican salted “oranges” that had lime colored rinds with orange colored interior.   As I am not the biggest fan of typical Mexican desserts, once again, no room for anything else!

Ahhhhhh.....

Then, back around the corner and in for the night!  Once again, I think I was asleep by 9 am!

Traveling can be tiring, obviously!  All those steps!

More later!
